Reggae Sting’s former playground JamWorld is being transformed into Jamaica’s First 24-Hour Entertainment Hub.
Jamaica Weekly understands that the famous JamWorld Entertainment Complex in Portmore, St Catherine, is transforming into Jamaica’s first 24-hour entertainment hub. This significant development was announced by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen during his recent Throne Speech at the Ceremonial Opening of Parliament.
Governor General Allen emphasized the ongoing renovations as a proactive measure to cater to the growing demand for dedicated entertainment zones within the country. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to propel Jamaica’s entertainment sector and provide a structured platform for cultural expression and economic growth.
We also understand that the groundwork for project was fulfilled back in 2022 when Minister of Entertainment Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, announced the government’s acquisition of the JamWorld property. Historically renowned as the venue for the iconic hardcore dancehall showcase Sting, the complex holds immense potential for revitalization and expansion.
Minister Babsy, at the relaunch of Sting in 2022, shed light on the vision for JamWorld’s transformation into a premier entertainment destination. She revealed the government’s commitment to nurturing the complex into a world-class facility, destined to rival entertainment venues across the hemisphere.
While specific timelines for the completion of renovations remain undisclosed, Governor General Allen shared the paramount importance of the entertainment sector to Jamaica’s identity and economy.
This will be a great development for Jamaica and will highlight our entertainment sector big time.
